Bird E House, a 50-1 longshot claimed for $8,000 in his previous start, won Thursday’s seventh race under Gonzalo Nicolas to key a massive carryover of $303,229 into Friday’s Pick Six wager.
Bird E House, a gelded four-year-old son of Birdstone claimed by trainer Mike Pender for the partnership of Robert Fetkin, Susie Meredith and himself, rallied from far back to win the mile and one-sixteenth starter allowance grass race by a half-length over Small Town Cop to pay $103.60, $33.20 and $13.60 across the board.
For Bird E House, it was his first race on grass and fourth victory in 14 lifetime starts. He was claimed from a mile race on the main dirt track August 1 in which he finished eighth of ten horses while well supported at 4.40-l.
After Bird E House’s big upset, only five tickets were “alive” in the Pick Six from 640 that remained before the seventh race. When Herbies Thunder, one of seven horses not covered in a 12-horse field, won the eighth and final race, the carryover into Friday’s seven-race program was confirmed.
Thursday’s card began with a carryover of $56,583 from Wednesday and $461,686 in “new” money was bet in the Pick Six for a two-day total of $518,269.
Post time for Friday’s first race is 4 p.m., with the Pick Six conducted on the second through seventh races. Attendance Thursday was 7,849.
