Hat Trick Racing, Wachtel Stable or Barber’s Andiamo Ragazza surged late and stuck her nose out to win by a whisker in the allowance feature at Del Mar Thursday afternoon. The 3-year-old filly by the late sire Smiling Tiger covered five furlongs on turf in :57.63 to take down the first prize in the $77,500 test for California-bred fillies and mares.

Freeman or Freeman’s Long Mayshe Reign led every jump of the grass feature except the one that counted most. She did have a half length on third-place finisher The Ellwood Johnson Trust, Integrity Thoroughbred Racing, et al’s Diamond Bar Gal. Eight horses ran in the sprint.

The winner, a homebred for Hat Trick, scored her second victory in her fourth start. She earned a first prize of $45,600 to push her earnings to $68,900. She was ridden by Reylu Gutierrez and is conditioned by Peter Miller. She paid $7.60 to win.

Racing continues at Del Mar on Friday with first post at 3 p.m.
