Reddam Racing’s Beau Square, well- handled by jockey Mario Gutierrez, rallied strongly through the stretch to win Friday’s feature at Del Mar, a five-furlong sprint over the infield Jimmy Durante grass course for California-bred fillies and mares.
Sent postward as the 9-5 favorite in a field of eight, Beau Square won by three-quarters of a length over Batiquitos who nosed out Bold At Night for runner-up honors. Mikenjane was fourth.
Beau Square, a three-year-old daughter of Square Eddie, ran the distance in :56.88 and returned $5.80, $3 and $3.20 after her second victory in six starts for trainer Doug O’Neill. Batiquitos paid $4.40 and $4, while Bold At Night returned $9.40 to show.
Drayden Van Dyke, Tyler Baze and apprentice Evin Roman all doubled on the eight-race program. Van Dyke won the first and sixth races, Baze took the second and fourth while Roman’s victories were in the third and eighth races.
There were no perfect tickets in Friday’s Pick Six so Saturday’s program will have a carryover of $59,400 with the single ticket Jackpot worth $75,510. There also is an $18,164 carryover in the Super High Five Jackpot. Nine races will be presented Saturday starting with the opener at 12:30 p.m.
