David Jerkens, Del Mar’s racing secretary, has announced that his initial condition book for the 2022 summer racing season at the seaside oval will go online Tuesday (5/17) afternoon. The book will cover the first three weeks of the eight-week session, which opens on Friday, July 22 and runs through to Sunday, September 11.
The book can be accessed by going to dmtc.com/horsemen/condition-book. There will be two more condition books to follow over the course of the summer.
Following a pair of robust wagering years, Del Mar will be offering record purses this summer – in fact the highest for a meet in the history of California racing. The 31-day stand will present more than $25 million in purses, averaging out at an unprecedented $800,000 per day. Further, 21 of the track’s major stakes have been boosted sharply and all of its overnight purses have been raised by a blended rate of 15%.
Opening week at the track will be Friday through Sunday, then racing will be conducted on a Thursday through Sunday basis for the majority of the session.
