Fashionably Fast, a well-named and consistent California-bred speedster, is the likely favorite Sunday versus five foes in the featured $100,000 Cary Grant Stakes at seven furlongs over Del Mar’s main dirt track.

A winner of his last three starts, including the Harris Farms Stakes at the Fresno Fair, Fashionably Fast will have regular rider Tiago Pereira in the saddle. The Lucky Pulpit gelding was a two-time winner at Del Mar last summer in allowance company.

Seeking to upset the Dean Pederson-trained Fashionably Fast will be Ultimate Bango, Mike Smith; Grinning Tiger, Heriberto Figueroa; Shades of Victory, Edwin Maldonado; Oliver, Abel Cedillo, and Rick’s Dream, Efrain Hernandez.

Ultimate Bango won his most recent race on the grass at Santa Anita, Grinning Tiger was narrowly beaten in the California Flag, also on turf; Shades of Victory is winless in seven 2019 appearances, Oliver won the E.B. Johnston at Los Alamitos in September and then was fifth more recently in the Comma to the Top at Santa Anita, while Rick’s Dream was claimed for $12,500 last summer and was a winner last month at Santa Anita.

Post time for the first of nine races Sunday is 12:30 p.m.
