Nick Alexander’s homebred filly Loretta Lynn lay up close for most of the trip, then assumed command at the top of the stretch and went on to a two and a quarter length triumph in the $77,000 allowance feature on the Thursday card at Del Mar.

The daughter of Grazen covered a mile on the main track in 1:40.68 to turn back six California-bred rivals. She earned a first prize of $45,600 and, as the 1.10-to-1 favorite, paid her backers in the mid-week crowd $4.20.

Kyle Frey rode the winner for trainer Phil D’Amato.

The tally was her second in her fifth lifetime start. She also has a second and a third and now sports earnings of $117,700.

Finishing second was owner Alexander’s Nanci Griffith, who had a length and three quarters on Ronald Yayhoshi’s Dendera.

Racing will be back on the menu at Del Mar tomorrow with a regular Friday start of 4 p.m.
