Agave Racing Stable or Rockin Robin Racing Stable’s Miss Bigly dug in through the stretch and outgamed a dead-game rival to score a neck victory in the featured Tranquility Lake Stakes Friday at Del Mar.
The winner, a 5-year-old mare by Gemologist, was capturing the seventh win of her career and picked up a check for $49,320 from the $83,436 purse in the one-mile test for fillies and mares, pushing her career bankroll to $407,742. The race originally had six runners set to go, but two scratches Friday morning cut the field to four and eliminated show betting.
Finishing second in the overnight stakes was Mathiesen Racing, Feghali or Mathiesen’s Paige Anne, who battled the winner the length of the stretch and just couldn’t hold on. Running third was Red Baron’s Barn or Vaya Con Suerte’s Harper’s Gallop.
Miss Bigly, the 2-5 favorite, paid $2.80 and $2.10. Paige Anne returned $3.00.
Time for the mile was 1:38.08. The winner was ridden by Juan Hernandez and is trained by Phil D’Amato.
Racing resumes at Del Mar Saturday with an 11-race card beginning at 2 p.m.
