“Free & Easy Wednesdays,” which over the last decade has become Del Mar’s all-time favorite value attraction, picked up a popular partner and a brand new name when the track and the Brigantine Restaurants agreed to team up for “Brigantine Wednesdays” during the 2018 season.
The racetrack will partner with an appetizing San Diego culinary superstar – Brigantine’s famous fish tacos – to make the start of the racing week not only a terrific “deal” for racegoers, but also a delicious one besides.
Just like “Free & Easy” previously, “Brigantine Wednesdays” will provide free admissions, free programs and free Stretch Run seats to all Diamond Club members starting with the second Wednesday (July 25) of the summer stand. This year, though, that offer becomes even better as the Brigantine brings its flavorful fish tacos into play at only $3 per tasty taco. Then throw in an added plus of a 16-ounce Coors Light for only $4 on Wednesdays and you’re a sure winner even before you make a bet.
The Brig and brew pairings will be available in the track’s Plaza de Mexico. Diamond Club admission – which is free and takes only a two-minute sign up – is easily available either online (dmtc.com/app) or at several locations at the track.
Mike Morton, Jr., the president of the Brigantine Restaurants, said he was delighted to link up with Del Mar, where one of their most popular Brigantine locations has stood on a hill overlooking the seaside racing headquarters since 1977.
“Del Mar racing is one of those iconic events that makes San Diego so special,” he noted. “We’d like to think that our hugely popular fish tacos are iconic in their own way and putting the two of them together every Wednesday during the summer seems like a ‘can’t miss’ connection.”
The Brigantine is one of the most successful local groupings of its kind in the country. There are seven Brigantines throughout San Diego, as well as six sister “Miguel’s Cocinas” Mexican restaurants. Additionally, the group is currently at work on two new sites, including an extensive, four-restaurant build-out on downtown San Diego’s waterfront that is expected to cost approximately $25 million and be one of the showcase dining locations in “America’s Finest City.”
Over the years, the lure of “Free & Easy” attracted more than 100,000 Diamond Club members to its ranks and the roster now totals more than 290,000 discount seekers. Besides the Wednesday attractions, the Diamond Club card also is good for a 50% discount on admissions for all other racing days.
This 79th racing season at Del Mar will be off and running on Wednesday, July 18 and go forward through Labor Day Monday, September 3. The sport will be conducted on a Wednesday through Sunday basis throughout the seven-week stand with the exception of the closing day Monday. First post daily is 2 p.m. except for Fridays when racing begins at 4 p.m.
