Holly and David Wilson’s Hear My Prayer, a filly in from Florida and making her west coast debut, tracked the early pacesetter, then fired a good shot in the lane to capture Del Mar’s allowance feature Thursday afternoon by half a length.
The 4-year-old daughter of The Big Beast was capturing her fifth race in her 10th start and earned $45,600 from the total purse of $81,060. She now has winnings of $194,975.
The winner was ridden by Juan Hernandez and is currently conditioned by Vladimir Cerin.
Finishing second was race favorite and pacesetter Bulletproof One, owned by Barber, Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners or Wachtel Stable, et al. Running third , a length and a quarter farther back, was Little Red Feather Racing or Sterling Stables’ Raymundo Secret.
Hear My Prayer ran the five furlongs on turf in :56.07. She paid $7.00, $3.80 and $2.80 across the board. Bulletproof One returned $3.00 and $2.20, while Raymundos Secret paid $2.80.
Hear My Prayer was the 34th “Ship & Win” horse to capture a race at the current Del Mar meeting. The track’s highly popular “S&W” program, where owners and trainers are rewarded with bonus monies for bringing in horses from out of state to race at Del Mar, is now in its 11th season. It has given a solid boost to the local horse population.
Racing will resume at Del Mar on Friday with a first post at 3:30 p.m.
