Ike Walker, piloted by Rafael Bejarano, rallied in the stretch to overhaul pacesetting Stormin Monarcho and win Del Mar’s feature race Thursday, a one-mile contest on the main track.
The winner, a five-year-old gelding by Bellamy Road, drew out in the final strides to score by a length, with Stormin Monarcho holding on well to be second, seven and one-quarter lengths in front of third-place El Huerfano. Avanti Bello was fourth in the field of six older horses.
Ike Walker stepped the distance in 1:36.23 in recording his tenth triumph in 24 career outings. Sent to the gate at 7-2, Ike Walker paid $9.60, $5.60 and $3.20. The horse is owned by CTR Stables, Dr. M. Sigband and trainer Jerry Hollendorfer.
Stormin Monarcho, who was ridden by Tyler Baze, paid $5.80 and $3.80, while El Huerfano returned $2.20 to show.
There were six perfect tickets in the Pick Six and each paid $7,138.80.
