Wild in the Saddle, a 19-1 outsider with jockey Mario Gutierrez in the saddle, outfought My Monet through the stretch to win Wednesday’s featured $108,330 Tranquility Lake Stakes for older fillies and mares.
Wild in the Saddle, a six-year-old mare by Silic owned by Nadine Anderson and Cheyenne Ortiz of Hemet, Ca., won by a hard-earned three-quarters of a length over My Monet, at 7-1 with Santiago Gonzalez aboard. Our Pure Creation, longest shot in the field of ten at 55-1, was third, one and one-half lengths behind the runner-up and a nose ahead of fourth-place Sam’s Sister. Even-money favored Savings Account was fifth.
Trained by Richard Baltas, the winner was scoring her ninth victory in 37 lifetime races and first money of $65,400 increased her career earnings to $360,968.
To her supporters in a crowd of 7,329, Wild in the Saddle paid $40.40, $16.20 and $8.80. My Monet returned $8.80 and $6.80, while Our Pure Creation paid $17.80 to show. Time for the mile on the main track was 1:37.05.
There were no perfect tickets in Wednesday’s Pick Six, producing a $58,142 carryover Thursday. Post time for the first race Thursday is 2 p.m.
