The fifth Pick Six carryover of the 21-day-old racing season occurred Friday at Del Mar when nobody picked all the winners of races 3 through 8 meaning $93,656 will be carried over into the popular pool on Saturday’s card.
There were no seriously surprising upsets during the afternoon -- with the longest price in the sequence being the $16.60 paid to win by Accountability and jockey Drayden Van Dyke in the nitecap – but there were enough double-digit prices to make the bet unwinnable.
The earlier winners were (Race 3) Dive Down ($7.60) with Martin Garcia up; (Race 4) Alexita ($6.80) with Brayan Pena; (Race 5) Blame It On Alphie ($7.20) with Flavien Prat; (Race 6) Knight of Drama ($12.20) with Victor Espinoza; (Race 7) Why Two ($14.40) with Norberto Arroyo, Jr, and Accountability.
The numerical sequence was 1-10-5-8-3-4.
The estimate is that a carryover of that size will in turn generate a total pool in the neighborhood of $500,000 for the bet on Saturday.
