Baoma Corp.’s Qahira, second choice in the wagering at 2-1 under jockey Joe Talamo, wore down 6-5 favored Mo See Cal in a prolonged stretch battle to win Del Mar’s feature race Thursday at seven furlongs on the main track.
Qahira, a daughter of Cairo Prince trained by Bob Baffert, drew off in the final stages to score by two and one-quarter lengths over Mo See Cal, who was ridden by Flavien Prat. Third in the field of five older fillies and mares was Show It N Moe It. Completing the line-up were Tiz Wild Wind and Watch Me Burn.
Qahira returned $6.60, $3.60 and $2.60 after her third win in five starts. Mo See Cal paid $3.20 and $2.20, while Show It N Moe It returned $2.20 to show.
Time for the distance was 1:23.74.
