A well-balanced line-up of eleven older fillies and mares, including five Eastern invaders, will tangle Saturday in the Grade III $100,000 Red Carpet Handicap at the marathon distance of a mile and three-eighths over Del Mar’s infield Jimmy Durante Turf Course.
 
Post time for the first of nine races Saturday will be 12:30 p.m.
 
Formerly called the Beverly Hills Handicap when it was renewed at Hollywood Park, the Red Carpet will be run for the 49th time.
 
Shipping in to Del Mar from the east coast will be two contenders from the barn of trainer Graham Motion, Appealing Cat, with Rafael Bejarano up, and Lady of Gold, Kent Desormeaux, plus Modernstone, Martin Pedroza, and Three Hearts, Joe Talamo.
 
Representing the California-based contingent will be Winning Rhythm, Alex Solis; Hijra, Elvis Trujillo; Left a Message, Gary Stevens; Luscious Lonna, William Antongeorgi; Bee Brave, Martin Garcia; Lady Pimpernel, Victor Espinoza, and Scooter Bird, Corey Nakatani. On the also eligible list are Macaabra, with Fernando Perez, and Soresca, Tiago Pereira.
