Breeders' Cup Betting Challenge

Registration has opened for Thoroughbred racing’s biggest live-money handicapping tournament, the 2024 Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge (BCBC), it was announced today.

The BCBC, in its 16th year, annually draws the top horseplayers from around North America and will crown the winner with the highest accumulated bankroll at the end of the two-day Breeders’ Cup World Championships. This year’s Breeders’ Cup will be held Nov. 1-2 at Del Mar Thoroughbred Club in Del Mar, Calif. To register now and to view the complete 2024 rules and information, go to BreedersCup.com/BCBC

The 2024 BCBC total cash prize pool is expected to be $1.25 million, based upon a minimum of 500 players registered. Players may participate in the  BCBC from Del Mar (host site) or from official satellite locations at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla., Monmouth Park in Oceanport, N.J., and Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, CA. Players can also participate online at TVG.com―the official wagering partner of Breeders’ Cup―Xpressbet.com, Twinspires.com, NYRABets.com (non-New York State residents only), 4NJBets.com (New Jersey residents only), and HPIbet.com (Canadian residents only).

For the 2024 BCBC, a $2,500 buy-in and $7,500 betting bankroll ($10,000 total) are required of each player. All buy-in monies are applied to the prize pool. Players can bet into the Win, Place, Show, Exacta, Trifecta, and Daily Double pools with their $7,500 bankroll over the two days (22 races) and keep all monies earned from their betting.

“The Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge once again offers horseplayers a chance to win big while wagering on the world's best Thoroughbreds.” said Tim Schram, BCBC Tournament Director. “This elite competition truly tests the mettle of big-money tournament players, and we are delighted to offer players a variety of opportunities to participate, whether you are joining us live at Del Mar, at our satellite locations, or participating with our online providers.”

Horseplayers can still take advantage of earning a free entry into the BCBC by winning a Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge Qualifying contest. Visit BreedersCup.com/BCBC for details on upcoming live qualifying contests, and for online qualifying contests, visit HorsePlayers.com

Collecting more than $120,000 in the final race of the tournament and taking down the largest winning total in event history, Kentucky native Sean Boarman was the official winner of the 2023 Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge, for which tournament players generated an all-time contest-record wagering handle of $7,759,434. Over $4.6 million of that total was wagered at Santa Anita Park, representing more than 23.6% of the total on-track handle. Combined with his first-place prize of $411,125, Boarman earned a grand total of $642,363, the highest any player has achieved in BCBC history. His strategy centered around putting himself in position to make a large wager on White Abarrio in the Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1).
