CM Racing’s 4-year-old filly Song of Shadows did what a fast horse should do in the sprint feature at Del Mar Friday – she made every pole a winner -- and in the process proved best over six rivals by a length and a quarter at the end of a five-furlong allowance test on the Jimmy Durante Turf Course.
The daughter of City Wolf registered her fifth victory in her 14th start and her second in a row under jockey Tiago Pereira. They had clicked at six furlongs on the green at Santa Anita last month, also in front-running fashion. “Shadows” is trained by Steve Miyadi.
Finishing second in the test for California-bred fillies and mares was Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners or Barber’s Proof She Zips, who had a length on Javier Perez’s Dorie Miller at the wire.
The winner paid $6.40 to her backers as the second betting choice and picked up a check for $33,000, pushing her career earnings to $163,951.
Racing will resume at Del Mar Saturday with a nine-race card with a first post at 12:30 p.m.
