Ten Broeck Farm’s Sunset Glow, impressive winner of the Sorrento Stakes this summer, heads a field of nine talented two-year-old fillies Saturday in the 64th running of the Grade I $300,000 Del Mar Debutante at seven furlongs.
Sunset Glow, trained by Wesley Ward, was a wire-to-wire winner of the Sorrento Stakes, the 6 ½ furlong steppingstone to the Debutante. It was her second win in four career outings. Noteworthy on her record is a runner-up finish in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot in England which matched a field of 21 fillies June 20.
Victor Espinoza, the filly’s regular rider, again has the call on the daughter of Exchange Rate.
Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer has a pair of Debutante contenders in Seduire (Elvis Trujillo), a winner of two of three races, including the Wine Country Stakes at Santa Rosa most recently, and Manahatta, game winner of her career debut August 10.
Also coming into the Debutante from maiden race success are Starlet O’Hara (Martin Garcia), Her Emmynency (Joe Talamo), Stealth Dome (Tyler Baze) and Conquest Eclipse (Corey Nakatani). Seeking their first victories will be Dad’s Princess (Mike Smith) and Windy Forecast (Kent Desormeaux).
Supporting feature on the 11-race program will be the 18th running of the $90,000 Harry F. Brubaker Stakes at one mile on the main track. Six older horses will tangle in the overnight event – Blue Tone (Desormeaux), Drill (Espinoza), Timeless Indy (Trujillo), Calm Pacific (Baze), Big Bane Theory (Talamo) and Safety Belt (Tiago Pereira).
