New logo design inspired by Del Mar’s style and Iconic Beauty
LEXINGTON, Ky. (October 29, 2015) – The Breeders’ Cup has today revealed the stunning new logo for the 2017 Breeders’ Cup World Championships, which will be held at Del Mar Thoroughbred Club in Del Mar, California for the first time on Friday, November 3 and Saturday, November 4, 2017. The new logo pays homage to Del Mar’s distinctive character and its rich 80-year history, and also illustrates the Breeders’ Cup’s emergence as one of the world’s preeminent Thoroughbred racing, lifestyle and entertainment experiences.
To instill a sense of place into the 2017 Breeders’ Cup World Championships logo, the widely-recognized blue and yellow diamonds from Del Mar play a leading role in the design. The diamonds are most noticeably seen over the starting gates and are repeated throughout the seaside venue. The banner on the top of the design also references the banner seen on the Del Mar logo, creating symmetry and a unique and authentic touch. The iconic purple and signature brand logo for Breeders’ Cup complete the design.
The Breeders’ Cup has teamed up with Epiphany Inc, a luxury marketing and branding agency whose clients include Montage Hotels & Resorts among other luxury hospitality brands, to create the new design. The two brands also collaborated together to create the 2014, 2015 and 2016 Breeders’ Cup World Championships logos.
“The logo for the 2017 Breeders’ Cup World Championships is the perfect fusion of iconic symbolism with modern influence,” said Craig Fravel, President and CEO of the Breeders’ Cup. “We look forward to bringing our world-class, international Thoroughbred racing championship to a new and exciting market for the 2017 Breeders’ Cup World Championships at Del Mar and think this sleek logo design perfectly melds the unique and vibrant identities of Del Mar and Breeders’ Cup.”
