Bob Traynor scored with a huge exacta wager in race 9 for the lead on day one in Del Mar’s signature handicapping contest, the 21st annual Summer Challenge presented by Yaamava'. He turned the $4,000 starting bankroll into $19,650 to top 128 entries in the two-day event held on track at Del Mar.
Traynor, from Oceanside, CA, wins the first-day prize of an entry to the $4,000 Pacific Classic Betting Challenge played at Del Mar or online at TVG.com on Saturday, August 31.
Rounding out the top three are Vic Stauffer of Hot Springs, AR, and Tyler Sprague, from Las Vegas, NV.
Participants started with a $4,000 live money bankroll and are vying for more than $250,000 in total prizes with over $100,000 going to the winner. The top 12 finishers receive a combination of prizes including cash, seven entries to the $10,000 Breeders Cup Betting Challenge at Del Mar, National Horseplayers Championship spots, and entries to the Pacific Classic Betting Challenge.
