Irvin Racing Stable’s Smokey Image, perfect in four races, including the I’m Smokin Stakes last summer, will put his spotless record on the line Friday versus nine two-year-old rivals in the $200,000 Golden State Juvenile at Del Mar.

  

The swift son of Southern Image, conditioned by Greg James, will have regular rider Juan Hernandez in the saddle in the seven-furlong event for California-breds. The chestnut colt has yet to be tested in his brief career, winning all of his races in dominant fashion, including a four and one-quarter romp in the I’m Smokin Stakes last September.

  

Lining up against Smokey Image will be Gio Mio (Rafael Bejarano), Defiant One (Felipe Valdez), Record Highs (Santiago Gonzalez), Bully Pulpit (Tiago Pereira), Scatastic (Fernando Perez), Family Code (Alonso Quinonez), Mana Strike (Leslie Mawing), Found Money (Corey Nakatani) and Swiss Minister (Alex Solis.)

 

Post time for the first of nine Del Mar races will be 12:30.

 

Wagering will be available at Del Mar on Friday’s Breeders’ Cup program from Keeneland race course in Lexington, Kentucky, beginning at 9:30 am (PDT).
